Victory in Jesus at VBS

We were witnesses this past week to an uplifting and joyous victory for our Lord Jesus over “the god of this world” for the minds and hearts of children.

In 1 Corinthians, God calls Satan the “god of this world.” In this context our God is speaking to a group of His people in what is today the country of Greece. He speaks through the writings of Paul the apostle of Jesus with the following words:

“The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)

What a priceless joy it was to watch that victory unfold! Little children and older young people were impacted by the experience of being among real believers in God. They heard and saw powerful stories of God’s love and power presented in ways that they could understand. Hopefully they were able to see with their minds the wonderful and real image of our God. Their innocence and precious enthusiasm for what they were being taught was obvious. The evil one must have gnashed his teeth in frustration as he heard these little kids sing Jesus’ praise to the top of their voices.

For one week his efforts to “blind their minds” were defeated. Our children were exposed to God giving victory to His Old Testament people over Satan in the stories of Moses and the burning bush and God’s ten-commandment covenant with His people. They saw Satan defeated in his efforts to tempt Jesus and then saw Jesus glowing in victory in the amazing account of His transfiguration. It was a week of exciting victory stories by our Lord all proving His power to give victory to all people of real faith like us.

So, hopefully, all our “little ones beloved by God” went back to their homes and lives a little more empowered to win over the evil one in his attempts to dim their outlook and ruin their lives. The taste of such victory is sweet indeed. Let’s keep up our efforts to let God give us such victories in all we can do to serve Him with our most invigorated efforts. Let’s then give Him all the praise and just enjoy being His people.
